Hardship Grants
The Benevolent Society of Saint Patrick Grant
The Benevolent Society of St Patrick was instituted in 1783 to assist Irish people residing in London who were in need. The purpose of the grant is to relieve hardship. The Society distributes money by way of small grants to Irish people in London who are in need.
This applies to people who are Irish by birth, of Irish heritage, or have a strong connection to Ireland. These grants range from £50 to £300.
Grants are given for the following purposes:

When you apply for this grant, our team will assess your overall circumstances to decide whether you qualify. These include: financial status, number of dependents, physical and mental health, security of accommodation, age and other factors that could be understood as creating a crisis or vulnerability.
All applications are reviewed individually and assessed in accordance with BSOSP and all Southwark Irish Pensioners Project's policies. We maintain the right to decline any application.

- To fund Passport, Birth Certificate, and Identity applications
- To cover the cost of emergency repatriation to Ireland in crisis situations e.g where someone would be street homeless in London but has accommodation in Ireland
- To provide essential items of clothing and footwear
- To provide essential items of household equipment e.g. white goods.
- To provide interim living costs to individuals in crisis
- To meet the cost of medical reports required to support welfare benefits claims and challenges
- To support moves to new accommodation.
